Observation Narrative
Similar to CUGA.21 except a more exposed side slope. Fairly dry with very little herb or shrub cover (walking from CUGA21 to CUGA38 you are virtually in one community). Heavy Acer rubrum invasion. Stand was probably once Quercus coccinea and maybe chestnut, but Acer rubrum is filling canopy gaps. Low diversity. Quercus coccinea with Acer rubrum invasion.
Directions to plot: From the "new Smith acquisition" parking area, use the trail headed north to go to the heavily disturbed former homestead (about 0.8 mi. from the road). Head NE for about 600 ft. to plot 21. Go 0.5 mi. past plot #21 on a NE bearing. Plot is on SW facing slope between steep drainages. Tagged tree is Quercus coccinea of 50 cm dbh with tag #179. Conduit is at a bearing of 340 degrees and 12 m from the tree.
